Edie Falco was born on 5 July 1963 in Brooklyn, New York. She was born as a daughter of an Italian American father- Frank Falco, a jazz drummer and a Swedish American mother- Judith Anderson, an actress. She is the sister of Joseph, Paul and Ruth. The famous novelist, poet and playwright, Edward Falco is her uncle. Her childhood was spent at different places of North Port and West Islip. She completed her studies at the Northport High School in 1981. She has adopted two children, son Anderson Falco and daughter, Macy Falco. She has problem with alcohol and she has survived breast cancer.

She took interest in politics, and during the presidential election in 2004, she appeared in a TV commercial on behalf of Mothers Opposing Bush. She donated generously an amount of $1000 to John Kerry’s Presidential Campaign and $300 to Democratic National Committee in 2004. In 2005, she donated twice to Hillary Clinton an amount of $1000 and $300 on separate occasions.

She played “Eliza Doolittle” in ‘My Fair Lady’. After this, she went to attend the SUNY Purchase, along with Stanley Tucci and Ving Rhames. She still maintains a good friendship with them. Her first role in any film was for the Woody Allen film ‘Bullets Over Broadway’. She has appeared in some more films such as ‘Cop Land’, ‘Trust‘, ‘Random Hearts’, ‘Freedomland‘, ‘Sunshine State’, etc.

She appeared in the TV series ‘Oz‘ and in ‘The Sopranos’. She has done recurring roles in ‘Law & Order’ and ‘Homicide: Life on the Street’. She made guest appearance in ‘30 Rock’ and ‘Will & Grace’. She has also acted in Broadway’s ‘Side Man’ and in the revivals of ‘Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune’ and ‘Night, Mother’. She won the Tony Award for her role in ‘Side Man’.

She has won three prestigious awards - Golden Globe, Emmy and SAGA (Screen Actors Guild Awards) in the same year i.e. in 2003. She the won the Golden Globe Award in 2000 and 2003 for Best Performance by an Actress in a TV Series- Drama for ‘The Sopranos’. She earned nominations for the same award, under the same category for ‘The Sopranos’ in 2001-02, 2005 and 2007-08. She won the Emmy Award in 1999, 2001 and 2003 for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for ‘The Sopranos’. She was a nominee for the same in the years 2000, 2004, 2007 and 2008. She was awarded the Screen Actors Guild Award in 2000, 2003 and 2008, for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series for ‘The Sopranos’. She was also a nominee in different categories for the same awards in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2007. She has been nominated for several other awards and has won many of them.

Edie Falco plays the character of “Carmela Soprano” in ‘The Sopranos’ tv show. She is the wife of the mafia kingpin “Tony Soprano“. She fell in love with Tony during their school days and they got married at a very young age. She efficiently handles the household and keeps the things well organized. There was some strain in the relationship of Carmela and Tony due to constant infidelity of Tony. Carmela even separated from her husband for a period.
